I think it is a problem.  That driver combined with the strange kernel 
version gateworks shipped (2.6.15 +- some other things) lead to spurious 
interrupts on both the miniPCI slots and the usb ports.  It causes havoc 
for madwifi when I had atheros radios in the miniPCI slots.
All of this got much better when using 2.6.18.4 and the GPL ixp ethernet 
driver.
