[Avila] Compiling kernel 2.4.21

Hi Soren,
2.4 vanilla trees do not contain the bits needed to build/run on Avila or
any ARM for that matter. You will have to do some HEAVY patching of the
kernel tree and after that I would still suspect that it would not work
within the SnapGear (SG) build environment we provide on our CD.
It also would not contain ethernet (NPE) support nor would it contain any of
the support needed for Avila specific peripherals such as temp/volt sensors,
CF/IDE.
While it is not entirely impossible it is a daunting task to say the least.
I recall because years ago I had to do all this before realizing that SG was
nicely prepared for building a variety of ARM and other kernels.
A starting point would be at the ARM Linux site:
http://www.arm.linux.org.uk/docs/kerncomp.php
Thanks!
