[Avila] i2c access to serial eeprom

I am using snapgear 2.6.x distribution for GW 234x and want to access the
serial e2prom s on the board however I have not been able to:
 
1. get the full eeprom contents (i.e. more then the first 256 bytes)
2. write new eeprom contents.
 
Did anyone succeed? it seems the driver is not written to support these
requirements ... Is there another driver somewhere that I am not aware of ?
