[Avila] wireless mini-pci card questions

I plugged a mini-PCI card  (GIGABYTE  GN-WI01HT) into the GW2348-4 board,  powered up, and typed
   
  modprobe  ath_pci
   
  I can see the mini-pci card recognized  as ath0  using  iwconfig, 
   
  I tried to use the wlanconfig  tool:
   
  wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode sta
   
  or 
  wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode ap
   
  without any luck ---  I got "wlanconfig: ioctl: Input/output error"
   
  lsmod gives me:
   
  ath_pci 89380 0 - Live 0xbf106000
ath_hal 208216 2 ath_pci, Live 0xbf0d2000
ath_rate_onoe 6248 1 ath_pci, Live 0xbf0cf000

  Any idea what is missing and any  information/links on the proper procedure to configure a wireless card  ( I followed  the  users-guid.pdf .... ).
