Not true.   If you purchase a gateworks board from gateworks, they either:
a) ship you a CD full of stuff or
b) point you to a URL full o source to same.

At least they did with me, I can't speak to what they did with you.

What Valemont does is *remove* the Copyright from GPLed code and 
**insert** their own, much worse, IMO.

Requiring the purchase of a developers kit prior to purchase of the 
boards.. is, or at a minimum, the GPL is silent on the subject.

I don't know that Gateworks does this (though I doubt they want to sell 
single quantity boards to all comers), but if they did, the GPL doesn't 
speak to same.
